Meet the Coaches


MATT STASUK

CSEP-CPT, NCCP Olympic Weightlifting


Matt Stasuk is a competitive olympic weightlifter who has competed in over a dozen weightlifting competitions over the last half a decade. He is currently international class 4 and aspires to represent Canada in international competitions in the future. As a coach he has worked with a host of athletes ranging from beginners to varsity level athletes. He is passionate about teaching efficient weightlifting technique and utilizes biomechanical and anatomical principles to help each individual reach their peak.



MICHAEL SHORT

CAC, NCCP Olympic Weightlifting


Michael’s Weightlifting career started in 1976, he was selected for Canada Winter Games in 1978. Won Alberta Weightlifting Championships in 1981, and has competed in numerous Provincial and Western Canadian competitions. 


He had a long Masters career which included Lifting in the Canadian Masters and Pan American Weightlifting Championships. Michael has been coaching since the 80’s, and has worked with athletes from various backgrounds from University to semi-pro hockey players and U of A football players.


He has coached athletes from club meets to provincial championships. He has also supported the AWA as a Past Vice President of the Alberta and is a level 4 official.

In this 4-hour seminar you will learn proper technique in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, the fastest movement in Olympic sport. We will break down these movements to ensure proper body positioning and teach you how to ‘pull’ yourself under the bar. We will also look at a number of specific assistance exercises to help you become faster and stronger.
